Bedroom decor trends this season
Whether you're decorating a room completely from scratch or want to change a few things for the new season, here's a breakdown of the main bedroom decor trends.
2024 has continued some trends from previous years and has also brought in some very interesting new ones. Would you like to know what's in when it comes to decorating the bedroom?
Beds and bedroom furniture
The bed is the centrepiece of the bedroom, so let's start there.
Upholstered ottoman beds are in, especially one-piece models with an integrated headboard.
These one-piece beds upholstered in cosy, pleasant-to-the-touch fabrics are very fashionable.
If you don't want to buy a whole bed and just want to change the headboard, for example, two types are very popular:
- Headboards with curved shapes.
- As for materials, cotton or bouclé wool upholstery, or plant fibres, which took off a few years ago: wicker cane, bamboo, etc.
If you don't want to change your headboard, you can transform the look of your bedroom just by painting the wall behind it or putting up wallpaper around the headboard. You'll see what a difference it makes!
That said, the cheapest and least time-consuming way to change the look of a bedroom when the warm weather arrives is to swap the textiles.
Fashionable textiles: materials, colours and prints
As for fabrics, all the decor bibles, from Revista Interiores and Elle Decor to El Mueble, agree that what's most in are natural, cool, soft fabrics. That means cotton and linen. And if the linen is washed and crinkled, even better!
The most popular shades
The colours that have taken hold in 2024 for dressing the bedroom are varied. On the one hand, Elle Decor highlights the "new neutrals", off-white and earthy beige. Westwing, another leader in decor trends, picks out moss green and terracotta. El Mueble, for its part, has no doubt: green is this year's trend colour.
Different motifs: you choose!
When it comes to graphic motifs or prints, this season's bedroom decor trends are split between geometric motifs, floral prints and checks and stripes. Which do you prefer?
Don't forget texture and layers on the bed
One trend that continues strongly in 2024 is the drive to create texture and volume on beds with textiles.
So, as well as using several kinds of cushions and pillowcases in different colours and shapes, it's very important to add a throw, bedspread or bed cover in a colour that contrasts with the main set.
And it's best to let it fall gracefully over the lower part of the bed, in the style known as effortless chic (chic, but looking as if it took no effort at all).
You can also create layers with cushions with ruffles or fringes, which are very popular right now, or ones with creases and raised textures. All of this will create cosier atmospheres.
In spring, curtains also get lighter, cooler and thinner, and if you have a balcony or terrace off the bedroom, ideally you should create flowing spaces that connect inside and outside and let the light in.
Must-have fashionable pieces for your bedroom
There are some pieces of furniture and decor that should be in your room if you like to follow trends. Here they are:
- An armchair in curly or bouclé wool in a neutral shade.
- A lamp that plays with volume, with raised or ribbed textures.
- Rounded stone or mineral-effect bedside tables in white or light grey.
- Untreated wooden furniture, vintage furniture with curved corners or spindle-fronted pieces.
- Chrome pieces in a retro-futuristic style.
- Chequerboard prints in bold colours. On lampshades, cushions, rugs or pictures.
- A designer piece of furniture with character.
- Curved or irregular mirrors with black or gold frames.
- A white wardrobe or one with glass doors.
- A bench at the foot of your bed, the same width as the bed or narrower. The most fashionable materials are wood, rattan cane and bamboo.
Beyond design and trends, in spring and summer it's essential to evoke nature and let in as much light as possible, which you can do by removing obstacles, lightening the bedding and placing fresh flowers in elegant vases.
