Summer tablecloths
Happyfriday tablecloths: design and colour for your table
Happyfriday tablecloths are designed to transform any table into a space full of personality. Made in Spain from 100% cotton, each piece combines high-definition digital printing with premium-quality fabrics that withstand frequent washing without losing their shape or colour.
From watercolour and floral prints to Mediterranean motifs, our collection includes square and rectangular tablecloths for tables seating 2 to 10 people. If you are not sure where to start, read our guide on how to choose a summer tablecloth.
All our tablecloths are digitally printed using non-polluting inks and come in eco-friendly packaging. Manufacturing in Spain allows us to oversee every stage of the process and guarantee the textile quality of every piece.
Types of tablecloth: choose the ideal fabric for your table
The fabric of a tablecloth determines its feel, durability and ease of care. At Happyfriday, we mainly work with 100% cotton tablecloths and technical fabrics such as polyester or microfibre, which offer a soft feel, good durability and resistance for everyday use.
These fabrics allow excellent definition in digital printing and are a highly recommended option for anyone looking for design, functionality and easy care.
100% cotton tablecloths
Cotton is the benchmark material for table linen. Its natural structure allows high-definition printing that reproduces every detail of the design with exceptional colour and line fidelity. The result is a tablecloth with the visual quality of a textile design piece and the practicality of an everyday product.
Happyfriday cotton tablecloths are made from 100% cotton twill, a weave that gives the fabric greater strength and body than standard plain weave. They can be machine washed at a maximum of 40°C, retain their colours wash after wash and become even better with use. They are ideal for indoor dining, both for everyday meals and special occasions.
Stain-resistant tablecloths
A stain-resistant tablecloth is the evolution of the twill fabric tablecloth for those who need greater practicality without compromising on design. The treatment consists of a layer of Teflon or resin applied to the fabric that acts as an invisible barrier, repelling liquids before they penetrate the fibres, so most stains can simply be removed with a damp cloth.
It is important to distinguish it from an oilcloth tablecloth, which is a fully waterproof plastic-coated synthetic fabric with a plastic-like appearance. A stain-resistant tablecloth retains the soft, natural feel of cotton or textile polyester, together with all the visual elegance of a printed design. It is a perfect choice for family tables, everyday kitchen use and outdoor dining.

Summer tablecloths for different table shapes
The shape of your tablecloth should match the shape of your table. Using a rectangular tablecloth on a round table, or vice versa, disrupts the visual balance and creates an unattractive drape. See our tablecloth size guide to calculate the exact size you need.
Rectangular and square tablecloths
These are the most common shapes for dining and kitchen tables. To calculate the size, add 50 to 60 cm to both the length and width of your table, giving a drop of 25 to 30 cm on each side. For a 140 x 80 cm table, you need a tablecloth measuring at least 200 x 140 cm. For a more generous drop on special occasions, add up to 80–90 cm to each dimension.
Square tablecloths work on both square and round tables when placed diagonally, creating pointed corners. This decorative technique is often used in rustic and Mediterranean-inspired settings.
Summer tablecloths for indoor and outdoor use
Summer is the season when dining moves outdoors: to the terrace, garden or balcony. A tablecloth designed for indoor use may fade with prolonged sun exposure, retain moisture from dew or deteriorate with sudden changes in temperature. If you are looking for outdoor tablecloths, discover our guide to tablecloths for terraces and gardens.
For outdoor use, three features are key: UV resistance to help prevent fading, water repellency to reduce moisture absorption, and easy cleaning so marks from soil, juice or wine can be removed with a simple cloth. Stain-resistant tablecloths in cotton or Dralon, a technical fibre with a cotton-like appearance, are among the most suitable options for terraces and gardens.
For indoor spaces such as the dining room, kitchen or living room, untreated 100% cotton is a premium option, offering greater softness, more vivid colours and greater print precision. Happyfriday microfibre tablecloths are perfect for design-led dining tables and for those who pay attention to every decorative detail in the home.

Size guide: how to choose the right tablecloth size
Choosing the right size is just as important as choosing the design. A tablecloth that is too small leaves the ends of the table exposed, while one that is too large may trail and become uncomfortable for diners. As a general rule, allow a drop of 25–30 cm on each side for everyday use. For special occasions or celebrations, this can be increased to 40–50 cm. See our tablecloth size guide for detailed calculations by table type.
| Table size | Recommended tablecloth | Side drop | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Table for 2–4 people (80 x 80 cm) | 140 x 140 cm tablecloth | 30 cm on each side | Ideal for small kitchen or breakfast tables. |
| Table for 4 people (100 x 100 cm) | 150 x 150 cm tablecloth | 25 cm on each side | A balanced drop with a modern, practical look. |
| Table for 4–6 people (140 x 80 cm) | 140 x 250 cm tablecloth | 30 cm at the sides / 55 cm at the ends | Standard rectangular table. |
| Table for 4–6 people (180 x 90 cm) | 150 x 250 cm tablecloth | 35 cm at the sides / 55 cm at the ends | A more elegant finish with a fuller drop. |
| Table for 6–8 people (180 x 90 cm) | 140 x 250 cm tablecloth | 25 cm at the sides / 35 cm at the ends | A practical, contemporary option. |
| Table for 6–8 people (180 x 90 cm) | 150 x 250 cm tablecloth | 30 cm at the sides / 35 cm at the ends | A more classic and balanced drop. |
| Table for 8–10 people (220 x 100 cm) | 140 x 350 cm tablecloth | 20 cm at the sides / 65 cm at the ends | A more modern look with a shorter side drop. |

Floral, Mediterranean and colourful styles: summer prints
The table is at the heart of summer social life. A tablecloth with personality can turn a meal into a memorable moment. At Happyfriday, we design each collection as a piece of textile art, with a coherent aesthetic, carefully considered colour palette and prints that tell a story. Floral and romantic style
Our most iconic collection. Botanical illustrations with watercolour detail — wild flowers, hummingbirds and flowering branches — in palettes of dusty pink, sage green, sky blue and off-white. Perfect for Provençal-inspired dining rooms, breakfasts on the terrace or celebration tables with an intimate, luminous feel. Spring Time, The Florist and Blooming are favourites from this line.
Mediterranean style and coastal summer
Juicy lemons, nautical stripes, navy blue and ivory white, and Ibiza-inspired ceramic motifs. This line evokes summer in southern Europe: outdoor tables, midday light and long, leisurely meals. Our Mediterranean prints combine a fresh colour palette with geometric and botanical motifs designed to remain appealing over time. Perfect for terraces, porches and summer dining rooms.
Modern and colourful style
For tables that are not afraid of colour. The Color Pop, Confetti and Happy Stripes collections use geometric prints, wide stripes and colour blocking in vibrant palettes that turn the table into the centrepiece of the décor. Perfect for characterful kitchens, contemporary dining rooms and anyone who wants to refresh their space with minimal effort.
Designed with passion, made with care
Every Happyfriday tablecloth begins in our design studio in Spain. Our team develops every print from scratch — from the first hand-drawn sketch to the digital adaptation for production — without using stock illustrations or licensing third-party designs. Everything you see on our tablecloths is original, exclusive and designed to last beyond a single season.
High-definition digital printing allows us to reproduce every line with a level of colour fidelity that cannot be achieved with screen or roller printing. The process uses non-polluting inks and consumes up to 95% less water than traditional printing. Choosing Happyfriday means choosing local design, premium textile quality and a genuine commitment to the environment.
Caring for and maintaining your tablecloths
With the right care, a quality cotton tablecloth can last between 8 and 12 years. Cotton is a rewarding fabric: when properly cared for, it retains its softness and colour for many seasons. Read our complete guide on how to wash and care for fabric tablecloths to get the most from your table linen.
- Machine wash at 30–40°C on a delicate or colours programme. Do not exceed 40°C for digitally printed tablecloths to help preserve the colours.
- Where possible, wash inside out: this protects the printed surface from friction against the drum and helps maintain colour intensity for longer.
- Use a neutral liquid detergent. Avoid bleach, as it damages the fibres and may discolour the print, and avoid excessive fabric softener, as it reduces the absorbency of cotton.
- Air dry flat or on a clothes airer. Avoid tumble drying whenever possible, as high heat may shrink the fibres and affect the colour.
- Iron on the reverse at a medium temperature of 120–150°C while the fabric is slightly damp for a smooth finish without shine.
- Store folded in a dry, dark place. Keep away from direct sunlight during storage to help prevent fading.
What is a stain-resistant tablecloth and how does it work?
A stain-resistant tablecloth is a fabric tablecloth made from cotton, polyester or a blend, with a surface treatment of Teflon or resin that acts as an invisible barrier. When liquid spills onto the fabric, the treatment helps prevent it from penetrating the fibres: the liquid remains on the surface in droplets that can be easily removed with a damp cloth.
What is the difference between a stain-resistant tablecloth and an oilcloth tablecloth?
The difference is significant, although both repel liquids. Oilcloth is a synthetic fabric coated with PVC or vinyl, making it fully waterproof, but it has a plastic-like appearance, is rigid and cannot usually be machine washed. A stain-resistant tablecloth is a cotton or polyester textile with a repellent treatment that retains a soft, natural feel, can be machine washed normally and preserves the visual elegance of a fabric tablecloth. At Happyfriday, we do not make oilcloth tablecloths: we focus on fabrics with a true textile look and feel.
What are the best materials for a summer tablecloth?
Cotton and polyester are two highly suitable options for a summer tablecloth. Cotton stands out for its fresh feel, softness and natural finish, while polyester or microfibre offer easier washing, durability and practicality for everyday use.
How far should a tablecloth hang over the sides?
For everyday use, the standard recommendation is a drop of 25 to 30 cm on each side of the table. This covers the edge, protects the sides and creates a balanced look without getting in the way of diners. For celebrations or more formal table settings, the drop can be increased to 40–50 cm. For a banquet-style presentation, the tablecloth may reach the floor.
How do you calculate the size of a tablecloth for a rectangular table?
Measure the length and width of your table and add between 40 and 70 cm to each dimension, depending on the drop you want. A drop of 20 to 35 cm per side is the most common choice for a balanced, contemporary finish.
For example, for a 140 x 80 cm table, you can use a 140 x 250 cm tablecloth for a lighter, more contemporary drop, or a 150 x 250 cm tablecloth for a fuller, more elegant drape. For large or extendable tables, always calculate the tablecloth size with the table fully extended.
How do you wash a printed cotton tablecloth?
Machine wash at 30–40°C on a delicate programme using a neutral liquid detergent. Always wash inside out to protect the printed surface. Do not use bleach or excessive fabric softener. Air dry flat without wringing. If ironing is necessary, iron on the reverse at a medium temperature of 120–150°C while the fabric is slightly damp. Avoid tumble drying at high temperatures.
Can Happyfriday tablecloths be used outdoors?
Happyfriday 100% cotton tablecloths are designed mainly for indoor use. For outdoor spaces, we recommend polyester or microfibre options that offer greater resistance to moisture and splashes. If you use a cotton tablecloth outdoors, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to help preserve the colours.
How long do cotton tablecloths last with frequent washing?
A quality cotton tablecloth that is washed correctly can last between 8 and 12 years with weekly washing. The main factors affecting durability are washing temperature, detergent and drying. For printed tablecloths, it is best not to exceed 40°C, to use a neutral bleach-free detergent and to air dry rather than tumble dry. Cotton is a fibre that improves with use: the first few washes may soften the fabric slightly, giving it an even more pleasant feel.
Are Happyfriday tablecloth prints exclusive?
Yes. All Happyfriday designs are original and exclusive, developed entirely by our design team in Spain. High-definition digital printing ensures faithful reproduction of every line, with colour quality that is maintained wash after wash thanks to the non-polluting inks used in our process.
Can Happyfriday tablecloths be combined with matching napkins and tea towels?
Yes. Many of our collections include tea towels in the same design or in coordinated designs that share the same colour palette. Pairing the tablecloth with tea towels used as placemats is also a creative way to personalise the table: the printed designs of our tea towels work perfectly as individual place settings and add an unexpected detail to the overall look.
