Happyfriday tablecloths: design and colour for your table

Happyfriday tablecloths are designed to transform any table into a space full of personality. Made in Spain from 100% cotton, each piece combines high-definition digital printing with premium-quality fabrics that withstand frequent washing without losing either their shape or colour.

From watercolour-style prints, florals and Mediterranean motifs, our collection includes tablecloths in all shapes and sizes: square and rectangular, for tables seating 2 to 10 people. If you do not know where to start, check out our guide on how to choose a summer tablecloth.

All our tablecloths use digital printing with non-polluting inks and eco-friendly packaging. Manufacturing in Spain allows us to control every stage of the process and guarantee textile quality in every piece.

Types of tablecloth: choose the ideal fabric for your table

The fabric of a tablecloth determines its feel, resistance and ease of care. At Happyfriday, we mainly work with 100% cotton tablecloths and technical fabrics such as polyester or microfibre, which offer a soft touch, good durability and resistance for everyday use.

These fabrics allow excellent definition in digital printing and are a highly recommended option for anyone looking for design, functionality and easy care.

100% cotton tablecloths

Cotton is the benchmark material for table linen. Its natural structure allows high-definition printing that reproduces every detail of the design with exemplary colour and line fidelity. The result is a tablecloth with the visual quality of a textile design piece and the functionality of a product for everyday use.

Happyfriday cotton tablecloths are made from 100% cotton twill, a weave that gives the fabric greater resistance and body than standard plain weave. They can be machine washed at a maximum of 40 degrees, keep their colours wash after wash and improve with use. They are the ideal option for indoor dining rooms, both for everyday use and special occasions.

Stain-resistant tablecloths

The stain-resistant tablecloth is the evolution of the twill fabric tablecloth for those who need greater practicality without giving up design. The treatment consists of a layer of Teflon or resin applied to the fabric, acting as an invisible barrier: it repels liquids before they penetrate the fibre, so most stains can be removed simply by wiping with a damp cloth.

It is important to distinguish it from an oilcloth tablecloth, which is a fully waterproof plastic-coated synthetic fabric with a plastic appearance. The stain-resistant tablecloth keeps the soft, natural feel of cotton or textile polyester, with all the visual elegance of printed design. It is the perfect choice for tables with children, everyday kitchen use and outdoor spaces.

Summer tablecloths according to the shape of your table

The shape of the tablecloth should match the shape of the table. Using a rectangular tablecloth on a round table, or vice versa, breaks the visual harmony of the set and creates an unattractive drop. Check our tablecloth size guide to calculate the exact size you need.

Rectangular and square tablecloths

These are the most common shapes for Spanish dining and kitchen tables. To calculate the size, add between 50 and 60 cm to the length and width of your table, that is, between 25 and 30 cm of drop on each side. For a 140x80 cm table, you need a tablecloth of at least 200x140 cm. If you are looking for a more generous drop for special occasions, add up to 80-90 cm to each dimension.

Square tablecloths work both on square tables and on round tables when placed diagonally, creating a pointed drop. This is a decorative resource widely used in rustic and Mediterranean styles.

Summer tablecloths for indoor and outdoor use

Summer is the season when the table moves outdoors: to the terrace, garden or balcony. A tablecloth designed for indoor use can fade with prolonged exposure to the sun, retain dew moisture or deteriorate with sudden changes in temperature. If you are looking for outdoor tablecloths, discover our guide to tablecloths for terraces and gardens.

For outdoor use, the three key features are: resistance to UV rays, which prevents fading; water repellency, which prevents moisture absorption; and easy cleaning, which allows stains from soil, juice or wine to be removed with a simple cloth. Tablecloths with a stain-resistant treatment in cotton or dralon, a fabric with the appearance of cotton and a technical fibre, are the most recommended for terraces and gardens.

For indoor spaces, such as the dining room, kitchen or living room, untreated 100% cotton is the premium option: greater softness, more vivid colours and greater precision in the print. Happyfriday microfibre tablecloths are perfect for dining tables with an aesthetic purpose and for those who take care of every decorative detail in the home.

Size guide: how to choose the size of your tablecloth

Choosing the right size is just as important as choosing the design. A tablecloth that is too small exposes the edges of the table; one that is too large drags and is uncomfortable for diners. The golden rule is a drop of 25-30 cm on each side for everyday use. For special occasions or celebrations, the drop can be increased to 40-50 cm. Check our tablecloth size guide for a detailed calculation by table type.

Table size Recommended tablecloth Side drop Note
Table for 2-4 people (80x80 cm) 140x140 cm tablecloth 30 cm on each side Ideal for small kitchen or breakfast tables.
Table for 4 people (100x100 cm) 150x150 cm tablecloth 25 cm on each side Balanced drop with a contemporary and functional style.

Floral, Mediterranean and colourful style: summer prints

The table is the centre of social life in summer. A tablecloth with personality can transform a meal into a memorable moment. At Happyfriday, we design each collection as if it were a piece of textile art: with aesthetic coherence, a carefully studied colour palette and prints that tell a story. For more inspiration, discover our ideas to decorate the table in summer.

Floral and romantic style

Our most iconic collection. Botanical illustrations with watercolour-style detail —wild flowers, hummingbirds, flowering branches— in palettes of dusty pink, sage green, sky blue and off-white. Perfect for Provençal-style dining rooms, terrace breakfasts or celebration tables with an intimate and luminous touch. The Spring Time, The Florist and Blooming designs are the favourites in this line.

Mediterranean style and coastal summer

Juicy lemons, sailor stripes, navy blue and ivory white, Ibizan ceramic motifs. This line evokes summer in southern Europe: outdoor tables, midday light and long meals. Our Mediterranean prints combine a fresh colour palette with geometric and botanical motifs that never tire with use. Perfect for terraces, porches and summer dining rooms.

Modern and colourful style

For tables that are not afraid of colour. The Color Pop, Confetti and Happy Stripes collections use geometric prints, wide stripes and blocks of colour in vibrant palettes that transform the table into the central element of the decoration. Perfect for kitchens with character, contemporary dining rooms and anyone who wants to give their space a visual twist with minimal investment.

Designed with passion, made with care

Every Happyfriday tablecloth is born in our design studio in Spain. Our team develops all prints from scratch —from the first hand-drawn sketch to the digital adaptation for production— without using stock illustrations or licensing third-party designs. Everything you see on our tablecloths is original, exclusive and designed to last beyond a single season.

High-definition digital printing allows us to reproduce every stroke with colour fidelity that is impossible to achieve with screen printing or roller printing. The process uses non-polluting inks with up to 95% less water consumption than traditional printing. Choosing Happyfriday means choosing local design, top-level textile quality and a genuine commitment to the environment.

Care and maintenance of your tablecloths

With the right care, a quality cotton tablecloth can last between 8 and 12 years. Cotton is a rewarding fabric: when properly cared for, it keeps its softness and colour for many seasons. Read our complete guide on how to wash and care for your fabric tablecloths to get the most out of your table linen.

  • Machine wash at 30-40 degrees using a delicate or coloured laundry programme. Do not exceed 40 degrees for digitally printed tablecloths in order to preserve the colours.
  • If possible, wash inside out: this protects the printed surface from rubbing against the drum and keeps the colour intensity for more washes.
  • Use neutral liquid detergent. Avoid bleach, as it damages the fibres and can discolour the print, and also avoid excessive fabric softener, as it reduces the absorbency of the cotton.
  • Air dry, spread out or on a clothesline. Avoid tumble drying whenever possible: high heat can shrink the fibres and alter the colour.
  • Iron at medium temperature, between 120 and 150 degrees, on the reverse side when the fabric is slightly damp for a perfect result without shine.
  • Store folded in a dry, dark place. Do not expose to direct sunlight during storage to prevent fading.

What is a stain-resistant tablecloth and how does it work?

A stain-resistant tablecloth is a fabric tablecloth, whether made from cotton, polyester or a blend, to which a surface treatment of Teflon or resin has been applied, acting as an invisible barrier. When a liquid falls onto the fabric, the treatment prevents it from penetrating the fibre: the liquid remains on the surface in the form of droplets that can be easily removed with a damp cloth.

What is the difference between a stain-resistant tablecloth and an oilcloth tablecloth?

The difference is essential, although both repel liquids. Oilcloth is a synthetic fabric coated with PVC or vinyl that is completely waterproof, but it has a plastic appearance, is rigid and cannot usually be machine washed. A stain-resistant tablecloth is a textile fabric, made from cotton or polyester, with a repellent treatment that keeps a soft, natural feel, can be machine washed as normal and preserves all the visual elegance of a fabric tablecloth. At Happyfriday, we do not make oilcloths: we choose fabrics with a textile look and feel.

What are the best materials for a summer tablecloth?

Cotton and polyester are two highly recommended options for a summer tablecloth. Cotton stands out for its freshness, softness and natural finish, while polyester or microfibre offer greater ease of washing, resistance and practicality for everyday use.

How much should a tablecloth hang over the sides?

The standard recommendation for everyday use is between 25 and 30 cm of drop on each side of the table. This measurement covers the edge of the table, protects the sides and creates a balanced presentation without the tablecloth bothering diners. For celebrations or formal tables, the drop can be increased to 40-50 cm. For a gala-style banquet presentation, the tablecloth can reach the floor.

How do you calculate the size of a tablecloth for a rectangular table?

Measure the length and width of your table and add between 40 and 70 cm to each dimension, depending on the type of drop you want to achieve. A drop of between 20 and 35 cm per side is the most common for a balanced and contemporary finish.

For example, for a 140x80 cm table, you can use a 140x250 cm tablecloth for a lighter and more contemporary drop, or a 150x250 cm tablecloth for a wider and more elegant drop. For large or extendable tables, always calculate the tablecloth based on the table when fully extended.

How do you wash a printed cotton tablecloth?

Machine wash it at 30-40 degrees using a delicate programme and neutral liquid detergent. Always wash inside out to protect the printed surface. Do not use bleach or excessive fabric softener. Air dry it, spread out and without twisting. If ironing is necessary, do it on the reverse side at medium temperature, between 120 and 150 degrees, with the fabric slightly damp. Avoid tumble drying at high temperature.

Can Happyfriday tablecloths be used outdoors?

Happyfriday 100% cotton tablecloths are mainly designed for indoor use. For outdoor use, we recommend looking for polyester or microfibre models that provide greater resistance to moisture and splashes. If you use a cotton tablecloth outdoors, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the colours.

How long do cotton tablecloths last with frequent washing?

A quality cotton tablecloth, washed correctly, can last between 8 and 12 years with weekly washes. The factors that most affect durability are washing temperature, detergent and drying. For printed tablecloths, it is best not to exceed 40 degrees, to use neutral detergent without bleach and to air dry rather than tumble dry. Cotton is a fibre that improves with use: the first washes can slightly soften the fabric, giving it an even more pleasant texture to the touch.

Are Happyfriday tablecloth prints exclusive?

Yes. All Happyfriday designs are original and exclusive, developed entirely by our team of designers in Spain. High-definition digital printing guarantees a faithful reproduction of every stroke with colour quality that lasts wash after wash, thanks to the non-polluting inks we use in the process.

Can Happyfriday tablecloths be combined with matching napkins and kitchen towels?

Yes. Many of our collections include kitchen towels with the same design or coordinated designs that share the same colour palette. Combining the tablecloth with towels as placemats is also a creative way to personalise the table: the printed designs of our kitchen towels work perfectly as placemats to add an element of surprise to the whole setting.
