It is well known that one of the great secrets for a good night's sleep is to have comfortable, fresh and seasonally appropriate bedding.

If you get cold or hot, you won't sleep well, so it's a good idea to change your bedding when the seasons change. Do you do it?

With the arrival of warm weather, swap the duvet for a thin, cool quilt that decorates and offers comfort.

Normally, having a fabric to cover us helps us to fall asleep better. In the summer you may like to have just a sheet but, for decoration, choose some kind of coverlet.

Whether it's to keep you warm on cool summer nights or to decorate your bedroom, choose a cotton or linen bedspread - they're ideal!

Opt for a pleasant feel for your sheets and bedspreads - there's no more pleasant feeling than being surrounded by textiles that are soft and cosy against the skin!

What are the best materials for your summer quilt?

We recommend using 100% natural fabrics, because they are cooler, softer and, above all, more breathable.

You can also opt for sustainable ones, kind to both your skin and the environment, such as those with OEKO-TEX certification (like the ones in our shop).

The two best for a summer bedspread are cotton and linen. In fact they are the most commonly used to dress the bed when the heat arrives.

Linen is the most breathable and becomes very soft with washing and use. It is thin and feels almost like a sheet.

Cotton is also breathable and the most durable fabric.

However, you should take good care of your bed linen, washing and drying it properly so that it lasts longer and does not pick up unpleasant odours. Our recommendation is to always check the label on your textiles before washing them.

However, as general recommendations, it is good to follow these guidelines:

  • Machine wash max 40°.
  • If possible, wash inside out.
  • Short centrifugation.
  • Do not use bleach.
  • Iron at 150ºC maximum.
  • Do not dry clean.
  • Short cycle dryer.
  • Do not soak.

On the other hand, if you want to stretch the use of the bedspread, use a top sheet between the bedspread and the fitted sheet.

The most common types of packaging

Believe it or not, there are many styles of quilts in terms of how they are made. Among the most common are the boutí style bedspreads, quilted, textured and with an outline based on waves or ruffles.

The bedspreads in our catalogue are 100% cotton boutí style bedspreads. They are best for use in between seasons or in places where it gets cooler at night.

Its textured, non-uniform surface is patterned in a variety of ways.

Another traditional form of quilting is patchwork quilts, made from scraps or patches of different fabrics. These have become popular again and many people make their own in workshops or at home.

On the other hand, light bedspreads, either linen or cotton, which are uniform, without quilting, can also be used as plaids. These are available in a variety of prints and with fringes or pompoms in the more bohemian designs.

Don't have too much or too little fabric!

Another very important issue when buying a new bedspread is to choose the right size for the size of the bed. Sometimes we get it wrong and then it is too long or too short. So that the fabric does not run short or overflow, we give you some tips on the most suitable sizes:

  • For 90 cm beds: Choose bedspreads of 150/180 cm x 250/270 cm.
  • For 105 cm beds: 200 cm wide and 260 or 270 cm long are perfect.
  • For 135 cm beds: Buy bedspreads 240 cm x 260/270 cm.
  • For 150 cm beds: The ideal width is 250 cm and the ideal length is 260, 265 or 270 cm.
  • For 180 cm beds: Look for bedspreads measuring 270 x 260 cm or 280 x 270 cm.

Prints and ideas for decorating the bed in summer

The most popular prints today are botanical and floral prints on the one hand, stripes and geometric motifs on the other, as well as exotic or ethnic prints for boho-chic beds.

Here are some recommendations for stylish and comfortable bed coverings for children, teenagers and adults.

Understated yet chic designs

Both the pretty white dragonfly bedspread and the zen-like Ginkgo blue Ginkgo bedspread are perfect for lightening up your bed in a stylish and colourful way.

From flower to flower

Our catalogue is full of floral and vegetable options, with more or less colours. Especially within the new Bloombastic collection, flowers are the absolute protagonists.

However, these two designs also fascinate with their summery character: Chinoiserie and Soft Bouquet.

Colour and joy for the summer

Many of our duvet covers and bedspreads come in summery prints full of patterns and colour. One of our favourites is this one, which is full of holiday cheer:

Ideal for teenagers

A colourful bedspread with a cheerful, bohemian print is this one, perfect for a teenage room. However, we have many more models on the web that your son or daughter is sure to love.

The most ideal children's bedspreads

A design with koalas that will invite the little ones to sleep and play.

For a soft and cosy touch that's more understated, we'd go for the cloud quilts, available in a range of colours, such as this lovely powdery pink.

Another children's quilt model that fascinates us is this village of friendly sloths hanging amusingly from branches. Children love it!

Finally, a decorative tip: if you like the effect created by the different layers of fabrics, you can place a blanket or plaid on top of the bedspread, at the foot of the bedspread, or use a bedspread.

There are also reversible bedspreads, offering two different prints to dress up your bed - a real two-in-one!
