Dressing the table for Christmas

If you are also passionate about this time of the year and celebrate Christmas in full swing, you might enjoy adjusting your home’s decoration or dressing your table for the occasion.

Christmas is a magical time when we love to gather with family and friends to celebrate and share countless special moments. From Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve dinners to Christmas or New Year meals, not forgetting themed breakfasts or homemade snacks prepared with care during these special days.

Before giving you tips on how to dress your table for Christmas, we want to offer you some inspiration to help you swap out bedding and crib decorations for Christmas-themed designs we have in our store.

Bed design with Mystical Winter duvet cover and cushions

We love the Mystical design, winter-themed and 100% natural, but we also adore the children's bedding or cot set Merry Christmas, which includes a charming cushion cover with two designs in one. So cute and fun!

An opportunity to set a special table

A key part of these Christmas celebrations is the table decoration, which will make the occasion even more special. We present some ideas and tips to make your Christmas table shine with splendour.

Choose a theme or main colours

First of all, think about the style you want to give to your Christmas table, just as you would have thought about the colours you liked for the tree decoration.

You can opt for a specific theme or colour palette to guide your decoration. It could be a 100% gold style, a vintage or traditional one, or a more natural Nordic style. Whatever you prefer. You can also choose a fun and original theme that includes unusual pieces!

Traditional colours are red, green, and gold. These never go out of fashion, but you can also go for modern combinations with other greens, blues, fuchsias, oranges, or metallics.

Choose a Christmas tablecloth or table runner

A good starting point is to choose a tablecloth that matches your theme or colour palette. You can use a plain tablecloth and add a Christmas-themed table runner on top to make it more festive. Or, if you prefer, you can choose a 100% Christmas tablecloth like some of the ones in our store.

Here’s an alternative idea: why not use our beautiful and charming themed tea towels as placemats over the main tablecloth?

Add festive centrepieces

The focal point of a Christmas-dressed table is the centrepiece, which can be round, square, or elongated—whatever you prefer!

It will be the star of the decoration, and you can design it using typical tree ornaments.

Create a simple centrepiece with candles and pine or holly branches, or add flowers, natural pinecones, or Christmas decorations like baubles or bells. Don’t forget to keep it low enough so it doesn’t obstruct the view between diners, allowing for easy conversation during the meal.

Choose special tableware, glassware, and cutlery

This occasion deserves your finest tableware, the most elegant pieces, or perhaps a festive-themed set. Use beautiful glassware and gold, copper, or silver cutlery for the occasion. Plates with gold or silver edges are very effective, but there are tableware sets that include classic Christmas motifs, like snowflakes, holly, or stars.

Complete the tableware with pretty fabric napkins, neatly folded, and with decorative napkin rings. A less sustainable version would be to use paper napkins decorated with Christmas motifs.

Personalised details that make a difference

If you enjoy crafts, we recommend creating personalised details made by you or someone close to you to finish off the Christmas table setting.

Examples could include name tags for the guests, natural details made with satin ribbons and twigs to place on each plate or to decorate the napkins.

Another option is to add small decorations or sweets at each place setting as a thank you for your guests.

The importance of warm lighting

Lighting is key to transforming the atmosphere and creating a sense of warmth, trust, and intimacy… Use candles for this, but also warm-toned lamps over or around the table.

You can also use garlands or glass pieces with lights inside to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere on the Christmas table. LED lights add a subtle glow without overwhelming the setting.

Some natural touches are always nice

These days, it's very popular to incorporate some 100% natural elements into the Christmas decoration of the whole house, including the table. Examples include pinecones, eucalyptus branches, fruits like pomegranates or dried oranges, pumpkins, cinnamon sticks… Not only do they add beauty, but they also bring lovely scents that evoke this time of year.

Remember, the key is to enjoy the process, share it with family and friends, and let creativity flow freely.

Christmas is the perfect time to show off your style and create a cosy and festive atmosphere for those you love most!
