Let’s start by clearing up the most common misunderstanding. When someone reads “4 seasons”, they often imagine a single filling with a medium weight that works for everything. That is not what it is: the warmth you want in August is nothing like the warmth you need in January.

The DUO system consists of two complete, independent duvet fillings. One is 120 grams, very light, and the other is 250 grams, ideal for between seasons. Each works on its own like a normal duvet filling, and they can also be fastened together to form a single 370-gram piece. Three levels of warmth in one product.

It is not a middle weight: it is two duvet fillings used separately or together.

Both have the same construction as the rest of our duvet fillings: a microfibre outer and a siliconised hollow-fibre filling. This means they keep you warm thanks to the air held inside the fibres, not through weight, so even when fastened together they never feel heavy on top of you. Like the rest of the range, they are hypoallergenic and can be washed at home.

The hollow fibre keeps you warm with the air trapped inside it. Even when combined, it does not feel heavy.

Breathable

It allows body moisture to escape, helping the bed stay dry throughout the night.

This is where the whole system makes sense. With two pieces you get three different configurations, covering the entire year between them.

The 120 g piece: the lightest layer

It is the more underestimated of the two, and often the most surprising. In summer, many people sleep with just a flat sheet, but there are nights when you want something with a little more body without adding too much warmth. That is exactly what this piece offers: it is extremely light, breathable and gives you that comforting covered-up feeling that helps you sleep.

The 250 g piece: the one you will use most

It is the between-seasons filling and, if your bedroom is heated, it can also be your winter option. This is likely to be the configuration you use for the most months of the year, so it is worth remembering that the DUO is not simply “the winter one”: it is primarily the all-round option, with extra warmth available when you need it.

Both together: 370 g for winter

Fastened together, they add up to 370 grams, giving you proper winter warmth. It sits between our 250 g and 450 g fillings, so it works well for winter in most parts of Spain. If you live in the mountains or your home is particularly cold, the fixed 450 g filling is still the better choice —and we are perfectly happy to say so.

how the two pieces fasten together

This is the practical question we get most often, and the answer is reassuring: the pieces join with press studs around the edges. It takes a couple of minutes the first time and less than a minute once you have done it before.

Lay the two pieces on top of each other, line up the corners and fasten the press studs around the edges. Once joined, they behave like a single filling: put them inside the duvet cover just as you would a normal one, and the pieces will not shift or bunch up separately inside.

When you want to separate them, simply reverse the process. One practical tip: do it when you change the duvet cover, while the filling is already out. That way, changing the configuration does not add an extra step.

And washing

Wash them separately, which is an added advantage. Each piece is thinner and lighter than a full winter filling, so it fits more easily in a domestic washing machine and dries faster. Use a gentle programme, a moderate temperature and no fabric softener, as it can compact the fibre. While drying, shake the pieces from time to time to help them regain their loft.

who it genuinely suits

The DUO is not the best option for everyone, and saying that makes it easier to choose well. These are the four types of sleeper it suits particularly well.

And who it is not worth it for

If you live on the Mediterranean coast and have good heating, a fixed 250 g filling will probably cover almost the whole year, leaving one DUO piece unused. At the other extreme, if your home is very cold or you live in a mountain area, the combined 370 g may not be enough: in that case the 450 g filling is the straightforward answer. In short: the DUO wins on versatility, space and ease of washing, all with a single purchase. Two fixed fillings win on maximum warmth, because no DUO combination reaches 450 g. So the choice is simple: if your winters are genuinely harsh, go for 450 g; if they are changeable or mild, the DUO gives you more flexibility.

One final point worth making clear: the DUO is a duvet filling, so it needs a duvet cover, which is the piece that carries the print. If what you want is a printed piece that goes directly on the bed without a cover, then a quilt is what you need. In either case, a plaid at the foot of the bed gives you an extra layer for those unpredictable nights.
