You love lighthouses, deserted beaches and hunting for the prettiest shells. Placing pebbles in your plant pots and bringing a little sand home from your favourite beach fills you with joy. Or perhaps from a wonderful paradise beach in the Caribbean or the Pacific!
Maybe what you really love are those shops with nautical decor, traditional fishing tackle and the best raincoats… If you like coastal style, have you thought about giving your bedroom that touch?
You can do it in a holiday home or in your own home, so you can enjoy it all year round, dreaming of the waves and smelling the sea breeze from your room.
The ideal colours for a coastal-style bedroom
When decorating a room in this much-loved style, whether it is the bedroom, the living room, the hallway or the bathroom, the basic colours will be white and a palette of blues that can range from aquamarine green, very fashionable right now, to a variety of indigos, deep blues or blues with a hint of grey.
It can also be rounded off with a touch of brown, preferably a light one. To get nautical decor just right, it is best to choose three or four colours: white, one shade of blue and brown, or white and two shades of blue that evoke the world of the sea.
If you stick to that palette, you can't go wrong. Ideally, white should be the main colour, the one that dominates, complemented by two or three other shades from those mentioned.
Essential materials for a nautical interior
You probably already have it in mind: wood. It is a material that a coastal-style room simply can't do without. And if it is raw, unfinished or weathered, all the better: it will look more authentic, as if it had weathered the wind and humidity of the coast.
Other materials that fit in well in rooms decorated with a coastal soul are rope, woven plant fibres, ceramics, mother-of-pearl and glass.
To get it right, you can follow one rule: decorate with ship's tackle or with figures related to the sea, from marine animals and plants to lighthouses, boats, oars, knots and so on.
These motifs are very easy to find in home decor, especially at this time of year.
There are also lots of lovely tableware sets with fish or shells. For textiles, linen and cotton are the best choices. That said, adding a few outdoor cushions in raffia or with woven details will be the icing on the cake.

To make it feel as if your bedroom is right on the beachfront or in a cabin on the edge of the Atlantic, use the colours we have mentioned. The key is choosing the blue or blues.
