How to decorate a room shared by siblings
Siblings sharing a room has many advantages. It helps them to bond and forge a unique bond, to learn to share from a very young age, to cooperate with each other and to play games with each other.
However, when it comes to decorating a room shared between siblings, the space available must be taken into account.
Depending on this, you can plan to place two parallel beds or bunk beds. Within the latter, there are more or less imaginative options, such as structures in the shape of a little house or other fanciful motifs.
Bunk beds also help to make the best possible use of space.
Key themes in the decoration of children's rooms
Apart from the beds chosen, it is important to consider these issues:
- Choose a decorative theme: if the siblings share common interests, you can decorate their room around a single theme: dinosaurs, superheroes, the universe, the animal or plant world, etc.
- Divide the space into zones: it is important to create differentiated zones in the room: the play area, the rest area, the study area... Elements such as paint or wallpaper, carpets, shelves... can help to differentiate each space.
- A dominant neutral palette: to favour rest, it is better that the colour that dominates the room is neutral, light or pastel. You can then introduce touches of bright colours with decorations or toys.
- Storage: a very important part of the children's room. The furniture should favour practical storage and, if possible, within reach of the little ones so that they can take charge of tidying up their room. Furniture with shelves that are not too high, open units with drawers to store everything, wardrobes with sliding doors... This furniture should allow children's toys, clothes, accessories and other objects to be stored.
- Study area: if space allows, the ideal is to place two desks, one for each brother or sister. This will make it easier for them to get on with their homework or projects each afternoon and concentrate. Offer them comfortable chairs and the right lighting.
- A personalised decoration: allow children to personalise their own sleeping space, as it will make them feel more comfortable and special. They can put posters, drawings or photos on the walls, shelves with their own books or figures, as well as cushions with their names on them or a board to display their artwork.
How to choose children's bedding?
It is very important to choose textiles that are suitable for children. In particular, natural or organic textiles that do not present any risk of allergies to their skin.
That is why, natural cotton or the OEKO-TEK seal are therefore a guarantee of softness and caresses that are harmless to children.
Other tips when choosing your bedding:
- Sizing: Make sure you buy bedding that fits your chosen bed size. If in doubt, measure the bed or consult size guides.
- Prints and colours: Consider the tastes and personalities of each child. All children have preferences for specific characters, motifs or colours.
- Season of the year: Consider each season of the year when selecting bedding for children. For winter, choose thicker, warmer fabrics, such as a duvet cover, and for the cooler months, a quilt will be great.
- Washing: Bed linen should be easy to wash and maintain. Look for fabrics that do not wrinkle and can be machine washed in programmes that help to remove stains. We all know that children tend to stain more than adults.
Remember that the choice of bedding for children is not only important for their comfort, but also for their safety and well-being. Take the time to choose the right bedding and make bedtime a pleasant and comfortable time for your children.
