A weekend at home with the family
When autumn arrives, the temperatures drop, the days get shorter and we feel more like taking shelter at home. Enjoying the comfort of home is a pleasure. And if the whole family gathers in these quiet and cozy rooms, there is no better plan!
For the weekend you can plan a full day of games, laughter and family fun - the little ones will love spending the day together! These are the ones that are most treasured in childhood and the ones that generate the most beautiful memories.
If you also want to leave the screens aside, you can plan a traditional playful day with several activities.
Ideally, these activities should take place in the largest and warmest areas of the house. The kitchen, the living room and the children's room are the best places.
Let's start with a good breakfast!
The day dedicated to family fun can start with the preparation of a special breakfast together. A healthy proposal would be to make homemade pancakes accompanied by a variety of fruit. A fruit and milk shake or natural juice can be added as a beverage.
The children can prepare the pancake batter, gather the fruit and decorate the table - a weekend breakfast tastes better if we put a little care into the decoration!
We can spread out a nice soft tablecloth, bring out the cloth napkins (a more sustainable option) and place one set of plates and cutlery per diner.
There are several versions of healthy homemade pancakes, such as those that replace white flour with oatmeal and sugar with stevia or other healthier sweeteners.
If we want a nutritious breakfast, it is important not to use syrups and go for fruit. Let the children choose their favorites: banana, strawberry, blueberry, mango, apple...
Reading in our shelter
Go back to childhood by playing with your children to build a shelter or a fort with sheets and cushions. Create a tent where you can all fit!
If the floor of the house is not warm, it will be better to place the tent on a carpet. Let the children fill the inside with cushions and stuffed animals. Finally, crown the result with some garlands of lights - it will look great!
Inside you can play games or read as a family. You could also dress up and act out your favorite story or fairy tale. And after lunch, the tent will be the most comfortable place to take a nap...
To rescue the old board games!
The evening brings traditional board games. If you've set out to teach the kids fun alternatives to digital, why not bring back some of the games you enjoyed as a child?
Goose, dominoes, cards or a memory game will make your children remember that afternoon forever. Of course, choose the best game according to the age of your children.
A creative proposal would be to design your own memory game. Besides being fun, this game helps train visual memory.
Memory" is a classic game in which several cards are placed face down forming a square or a rectangle. You have to try to put the pairs together, picking up only two cards per turn and per person at a time. It is important that the cards are always in the same place, to make it easier to remember which drawing was hidden under each one.
The most creative part would be to create your own set of cards. You can let the children draw about twenty pairs of animals or everyday objects on matching squares of cardboard. If you laminate them, they will last much longer!
Creating our own games or toys is something we have all done and is really rewarding.
After all this intense schedule of activities, it's probably time for baths and dinner. To end a perfect weekend at home with the family we can read a story in bed, under the cotton sheets. We are sure that before finishing the last page, the kids have already closed their eyes…
