Starting a new year is always a horizon of new perspectives and possibilities, don't you think? In this case we encourage you to prioritise sustainability in your home life, little by little introducing elements and changes in your domestic routines aimed at a greener lifestyle.

Tips for introducing more sustainable textiles in the home

You probably already do things like recycling, plastic reduction, conscious consumption of local products, buying in bulk or reusable water bottles, don't you?

However, in this case, as our area of expertise is textiles, our tips are geared towards this sector. Shall we get started?

1. Prioritise cotton bedding

To dress your bed with the most skin-friendly and natural linen, we recommend 100% cotton. In addition, cotton bed linen is economical, although there are qualities, depending on the type of fabric (Egyptian cotton, sateen...) or the number of threads.

Our duvet covers, for example, are mostly made of 150 thread count cotton. As you can see, natural and ecological bed linen is not expensive at all.

Gradually banish synthetic fibres from your wardrobe, and you will see how your skin breathes better and you contribute to a more sustainable world.

On the other hand, cotton is suitable for all temperatures, cosy in winter and cool in summer - great!

A natural alternative would also be linen for bed linen, towels or textiles in other parts of the house. Soft, breathable and environmentally friendly, try it!

2. Switch to cloth napkins

Do you already use cotton or linen napkins instead of disposable paper napkins in your daily life? This is already a big change. Stopping buying paper napkins means a saving in your household expenses but a big change towards a more sustainable consumption. Yay!

If you haven't already done so, we recommend getting a set of 4 cloth napkins or two, depending on the number of people living at home. When they are dirty, put them in the washing machine and they will be perfect.

They are also very soft, cosy and much more decorative when it comes to dressing a table with care and taste for detail.

3. A cloth tablecloth instead of oilcloths

We know that the great attraction of plastic tablecloths is how quickly and well they wipe clean with a damp cloth, but if we want to gradually banish plastics from our daily lives, switching to cloth tablecloths (large or individual) is essential.

Like napkins, they can be easily washed in your washing machine and are more elegant too. Now, in addition to cotton, linen tablecloths are also popular, for a more country and bohemian look.

4. Woollen or linen plaids, much better!

Another big step in transforming your home into a more environmentally friendly home, as with your bedding, is to choose natural upholstery for your sofas and seats and plaids or blankets made from 100% natural materials.

One option is to replace synthetic fibre blankets with cotton, linen, crochet or wool ones.

Our recommendation is to have several plaids, some thicker for winter and some lighter for the warmer months.

Choose them to match (or in complementary colours) with your cushions and upholstery!

5. Get cloth shopping bags

A great way to break away from today's voracious consumerism and minimise the use of plastics is to change your mind and start carrying reusable cloth bags everywhere you go for your shopping or for transporting your things from one place to another.

If you decide to take some of your tote bags with you when you do your shopping so that you don't have to buy plastic bags at the supermarket, it will make a big difference. More and more people are taking this into account and, apart from saving money (as most establishments already charge for bags), they are reducing the use of plastics in the market.

If you don't have them (tote bags are sometimes given as gifts when you shop at certain shops or go to events), get two or three tote bags of various sizes and take them with you every time you go to the supermarket or to the shops. The turnaround will be monumental!
